Approved Minutes
1. CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Terry Bunn, Chairman pro tem, called the meeting
to order.
2. ROLL CALL
Mr. Bunn asked Mr. Noland to call the roll. Members
present were as follows:
Mr. Terry Bunn, Mr. Dwight Duke, Mr. Paul Hamrick,
Mrs. Lena Hardaway, Mr. Robert Keahey, Mr. Preston
Minus, Dr. Louise Nolen, Dr. Doris Oliveira, Mr.
Alex Saad, Mr. Thed Spree, Dr. Tom Umphrey, Mr. Nat
Watkins
Trustee absent: Mr. John Smith
3. REPORT OF BUDGET AND FINANCE COMMITTEE
Mr. Bunn requested Dr. Tom Umphrey, Chair of Budget
and Finance Committee, to present his report. Dr.
Umphrey reported that the Committee had met on
September 2, 2000, and members voted unanimously to
approve the budget for Fiscal Year 2000-2001. He
moved to approve the budget, as previously presented
to all trustees, and Mr. Saad seconded the motion.
Mr. Duke asked if there were any increases or
decreases to the budget. Dr. Umphrey indicated that
the increases were specifically directed by the
Legislature for salaries. Mr. Noland said the
breakdown of increases were noted, by line item, on
Page 4 of the budget and that UWA had to report to
the Executive Budget Office regarding the increases
given as mandated by the Legislature.
Dr. Oliveira asked about the salary of the Chief of
Police. Mr. Noland stated there is a Salary Equity
Committee that surveys peer institutions for salary
ranges of staff employees and that adjustments are
made to staff salaries as funds permit.
The motion regarding the budget passed unanimously.
Mr. Bunn welcomed the new Trustee, Mr. Paul Hamrick,
who was recently appointed by the Governor.
4. OTHER
Mr. Bunn called for an Executive Session at 10:15
a.m.

Mr. Bunn reconvened the Special Session at 11:15
a.m.
Mr. Minus made a motion that the Board enter into a
contract with President Ed Roach through February
2002, Mr. Watkins seconded the motion, and the
motion passed unanimously.
5. ADJOURN
Mr. Minus moved to adjourn the meeting, Mr. Keahey
seconded the motion, and the motion passed. |
